SC Volleyball Team Wins Team Academic Award

The Sheridan College women’s volleyball team, led by coach Jennifer Stadler, was just awarded an American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2017 – 2018 academic year. According to AVCA, the award honors teams who have matched their dedication to the sport of volleyball with excellence in the classroom. Only 26 two-year college teams in the nation received the award this year.

“The time span for any athletic career is relatively short, but our student athletes’ academic achievements at Sheridan College will carry them forward for the rest of their lives,” said NWCCD Athletic Director Dr. Richard Hall. “I couldn’t be more proud of this team for setting a lofty goal and exceeding it.”

In order to receive the award, teams must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale. The Sheridan College team surpassed that requirement, maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.46, the highest since Stadler became coach seven years ago.

“This is a prestigious award that really shows how hard our team works to put their academics first while still accomplishing great things on the court,” said Stadler. “Last year was a huge success for us as a team, so I can’t wait to see what this year holds.”

The Sheridan College women’s volleyball team plays their first home game of the season on Friday, Aug. 31 against Miles Community College at 7 p.m. at the Sheridan College Golden Dome. For more information and a full schedule, visit www.scgenerals.com.
