Student Spotlight – Jordan Carroll ’27

Just ask Jordan Carroll – sometimes, all we need is a fresh start.  Jordan came to Sheridan at the urging of his mother after some unfortunate circumstances derailed his life in Colorado. Ultimately, this decision changed the course of his life.

Unhappy with his career in retail, Jordan discovered a passion for gardening, rangeland management and horticulture. However, when he applied for positions in those fields, he was consistently turned down because did not have any related higher education or degrees. When Jordan moved to Sheridan, he applied to the Ag program at Sheridan College, was accepted and a new chapter was born.

Deciding to pursue double majors in Rangeland Management and Plant Sciences, Jordan received multiple scholarships as well as internship positions through the Scott Internship program run by the Sheridan College Foundation. “Sheridan College’s donors and educational partners have taken care of me from day one. I will be walking away from Sheridan College without owing a single penny for my two Associates of Science degrees. And I cannot say thank you enough for that freedom.”

Responding to a challenge from Ag instructor Mae Smith, Jordan created a documentary titled Grit & Grace featuring ranchers, their land and their animals. “I was able to use all that I learned with my classroom and internship experiences to organize and coordinate a community event, connect with agriculture professionals, and fundraise to make it all happen. Everyone that I have met, worked or collaborated with in Sheridan, has come together to provide me support, guidance, expertise, and I am forever grateful. The entire experience to me is how I would define a truly great “college experience”.”

After graduating next May, Jordan plans to attend the University of Wyoming. He explained, “But ultimately, I will go wherever God calls me to go. Because He brought me to Wyoming, a place I believed had nothing to offer me. Only to find that it was the place that had everything to offer me.”

Jordan has achieved more than he ever imagined by taking full advantage of every opportunity offered by Sheridan College, including financial support from our donors and phenomenal educational experiences in and out of the classroom. When he is done with his studies, he will be able to enjoy a brand-new career in a field that he loves.  Good luck in your next chapter, Jordan!
