Student Spotlight – Sierra Hilgenkamp

Hailing from Wall, South Dakota, Sierra Hilgenkamp had no idea what she wanted to do after high school. One of her best friends was planning on attending Sheridan College and was joining the rodeo team, so Sierra decided to take a visit and see what it was all about.

It is now four years, two degrees and a certificate later, and Sierra can tell you that Sheridan College has earned a very special place in her heart. “I love the community, the school, the facilities, the faculty, the support and the most amazing people. I can’t think of a time in my last four years that someone has not gone out of their way to help me. Whether that’s an instructor, coach, the lady at the front desk, or the gals in the cafeteria. Living here on campus is such a blessing and such a welcoming place to start the adult chapters of our lives.”

In addition to her studies, Sierra competes on the Sheridan College Rodeo team in Breakaway and Team Roping. “Being on the SC rodeo team has allowed me to build relationships with people who push me to be the best version of myself. I am so proud to be part of this team!”  Her goal is to make it to the college rodeo finals this year. With a handful of points and cash from the fall college rodeos, she is well on her way to accomplishing that goal.

With the aid of scholarships throughout her time at Sheridan College, Sierra will graduate in the spring with degrees in Nursing and Athletic Training and a Coaching certificate, and plans to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing through the University of Wyoming.

“I am excited to go forward and start my career, to build a life and family, and share grace and light to others. I couldn’t be more ready to know that I can do hard things and have so many amazing people in my corner, including all the generous donors to Sheridan College. Thank you!”
