Charlene Bodine – 2007 Distinguished Alum

A success story of persistence and dedication – that’s Charlene Bodine, who retired from the Northern Community College District Board in 2007 after 16 years of service in all officer positions on the board including three as chairwoman. She graduated from high school in Ekalaka, Montana, in 1960 and attended Sheridan College part time between 1972 and 1987. “My goal was to receive a bachelor’s degree, Bodine said.” “I was determined to do it and I am thankful to Sheridan College for helping me succeed.”

As the recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Alum Award, Charlene served as the keynote speaker during Sheridan College commencement ceremonies. She opened her remarks with the advice, “Aspire to inspire before you expire.” She also urged the graduates to volunteer their time to serve their communities. “Your rent is due,” she said to repay the communities where you live. Following Bodine’s address, NWCCD President Drumm presented her with an honorary Associate of Arts degree from Sheridan College.

Charlene believes wholeheartedly in the power of education. “I’m big on education; I don’t think people can ever have enough.” That’s why Dick (husband) and I started our scholarship fund eleven years ago – to help students succeed. My motivation for becoming a donor was my experience at Sheridan College – it was the most wonderful thing for me and my family. Giving back is pretty great, too!
